Hello fellow leader readers, happy new year! I wanted to share two reading hacks for faster and more productive reading I learned over the break. If you love reading as much as I do, you probably have a stack of books on your nightstand and piling up in your Kindle. With these two hacks I recently learned, you can both continue to revisit your notes and highlights from your library and import others into an app and also some ideas for improving your rate of reading speed.
Readwise App - Download Readwise onto your device and import your books from all digital book platforms including the ability to import offline book notes that people from around the world have imported so crowdsourced notes. You can also build mastery with the premium version of the app creating flashcards for you to go deep on concepts in books you want to absorb. The app offers you a daily review of your highlights across your library and gives you the opportunity to dive deep into the book you might want to reference on an ongoing basis. It is an ultimate companion for the voracious reader.
Spreeder/Swiftreader - This hack is around speed reading with efficiency and training. I learned about this in a speed reading class taught on Udemy. There are multiple ways to use this platform, I have been using it as a Chrome extension in my browser to read long articles, research and using read.amazon.com for my Kindle cloud reader. Click on the extension and it uploads the book which you read literally word by word set at a speed comfortable for you. I am currently reading at 500wpm with a goal in 2021 of 1000wpm. The average reader is around 200-250wpm depending on the complexity of the subject.
If you have other reading hacks that you enjoy, please leave them in the comments on LinkedIn. Thank you and have a great year of reading.
